Hip to be Square!

Hello, it is Cec here and I am your hostess for the latest challenge. I am calling it Hip to be Square!  Here is how I describe it:

"Let's go retro and make a project influenced by the brighter colours and/or images and patterns of the hippie era of the late 1960's/early 1970's. Your project must either be square or include at least one square element."

At the end of the challenge the team will choose their top four picks. Our first place winner will be invited to join us in a Guest DT spot here at Frilly and Funkie. Three additional talented participants will receive badges to display on their blogs. Everyone who enters and adheres to the challenge guidelines will be entered into a drawing to win a $25 spending spree at The Funkie Junkie Boutique!

The guidelines for entering are simple; create a new vintage or shabby chic project following the challenge theme, link it below to your post (not just your blog) and include a link back to this challenge in your post. You can combine our challenge with up to 10 challenges (including this one) to be in with a chance of winning. Make sure you follow the guidelines, as unfortunately we have had to eliminate entrants from the prize draws in the past when they have entered too many other challenges. If you are entering through a public forum please use keyword F&F. Also, please be sure to turn off your Word Verification so our Design Team can leave comments on your blogs.

Now let's have a look at what the Funkie side of the team have created to inspire you.  If you want to get all the details of their projects, just click on their blog links. Once you have finished checking things out, come on back and share your hip project with us.

Challenge Winners - Let's Make it a Trio!

Welcome to the beginning of a new week and our latest winners of 2016 here at Frilly and Funkie! Thank you so much to everyone who took the time to enter our 'Let's Make it a Trio!' challenge. There were lots of wonderful projects featuring trios to choose from and the Design Team loved seeing them all. After much deliberation we chose our winner, #7 Brenda Brown (Bumblebees and Butterflies).

We all adored the wonderful clusters of flowers and use of different textures surrounding the colourful trio of butterflies on this clever reverse canvas. Congratulations Brenda on being our favourite for the 'Let's Make it a Trio!' challenge and winning the opportunity to be a Guest Designer here at Frilly and Funkie for a future challenge.

And now for the next three winners of our Frilly and Funkie Top 3 Badges; this week's choices are... #4 Alice K, #17 Karen Petitt, and #22 Kavitha!!! Please email Linda at thefunkiejunkie@gmail.com for the codes for the Top 3 badges so that you can display them proudly on your blog.

And finally Random.org has chosen a lucky winner for the $25 gift certificate to The Funkie Junkie Boutique. Our congratulations this time go to #6 Marty F!

A huge thanks from the Frilly and Funkie team to everyone who took part in this challenge and congratulations again to our winners. Please email Linda at thefunkiejunkie@gmail.com for the codes for the winner's badge and to give us your email address for the Guest Designer details (Brenda) for the Top 3 badges (Alice, Karen, and Kavitha) and for the gift certificate details (Marty).

Our current challenge, 'Hip to be Square!' runs through Tuesday, April 5th. We hope to see you entering this time around so that you too can be in with a chance to win.

Have a great week everyone!

Saturday Step X Step - Pion Birthday Greetings

Hello Everyone! Glad you dropped in to Frilly and Funkie today. Pamellia here with my Saturday Step by Step. I have put together a lovely spring Birthday card using my two two biggest loves in my craft room right now, Pion Design Papers and mixed media products, and they are all available at Linda's shop The Funkie Junkie Boutique.

For this card I used the following dies and punches: Sizzix Bookplates and Tag, Sizzix Tag Collection, Sizzix Fall Foliage, Prima Crochet Doily and Sizzix Large Butterfly Punch.

I cut a large tag out using the Pion Design Day in May collection and made a white backing layer. I cut a couple of medium tags and background panels using the Pion Design Paris Flea Market collection. The ones I don't use this time around I will put to good use later!

I cut a bookplate using some white corrugated cardboard, then framed a birthday greeting from the Pion Design Day in May collection.

I added a touch of Picket Fence Crackle Paint to the layers for a bit of texture then spritzed on some Shabby Shutters Distress ink spray.

I antiqued all the pieces with Archival ink Coffee and rubbed a little Gathered Twigs Distress ink into the cracks of the crackle paste texture.

I coloured some seam binding with Distress inks Antique Linen and Victorian Velvet to use for my bow. I cut out some leaves and coloured them with Shabby Shutters and Gathered Twigs.

I assembled all of the panels using Foam Squares to give the card a little dimension. I added my seam binding bow and a May Arts Twine bow along with some of the gorgeous new flowers that Linda is carrying in the shop. A little lace and a small sentiment to finish the feminine look.

I hope you enjoyed my tutorial . Please feel free to let me know if you have any questions. There's still time to enter our current challenge "HIP TO BE SQUARE", hope to see your there!

Thanks for stopping in! Hugs, Pamellia :)
